Who should participate in this course?

Learner's who wish to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills required to understand child psychology, in the age range from 4-18 years, relevant to childhood education and care settings .

This course would be beneficial to Crèche staff, playgroup staff, nannies, parents, child minders, teachers etc. 


General Aims
  • To help the learner develop new ideas and competence that can be utilised in their workplace
  • To promote good practice in relation to interaction with the children and adolescents they work with

Course Syllabus

Topics covered include:

  • Development of personality and knowledge of self
  • Gender-consciousness
  • Development of language and communication skills
  • How children and young people develop and maintain relationships
  • The role of computer-based activities at home and in the classroom
  • The impact of transition and change in children’s lives
  • The impact of continuity and security in the lives of children and adolescents

 


Entry Requirements

Minimum age is 17 years.

Learners should have a FETAC Level 5 Component Certificate or equivalent and should be working in a childcare setting.

Learners must also be capable of undertaking assessment work to Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate standard.

International learners undertaking this course should have confidence in their English language, reading, writing and comprehension skills and have at least a 5 IELTS score or equivalent.

Work Experience
